What is Spiralin® & where does it come from?
Over millions of years of evolution, the marine microalgae Spirulina developed highly efficient protective mechanisms against prevailing, threatening conditions, such as unfiltered, aggressive UV rays, as well as protection against natural infections such as viruses, bacteria and fungi.
Watch the ‘Spiralin-in-Motion’ video (4min) to learn more about the scientific background and research results as to Spiralin®, which is the highly active algae-extract (a natural poly-saccharide).
What makes Spiralin® so unique?
The patented extraction process of Spiralin®, ensures the highest degree of antimicrobial protection required for effective results. Spiralin® has been clinically proven to create a unique protection trifecta:
effective against wart/verruca infections, but also prophylactic against herpes-infections
effective against strains of fungal nail & skin infections
effective against problematic bacteria & secondary infections incl. drug-resistant MRSA
…protects against cell-damaging influences like UV radiation
Experimental studies showed that collagen-forming skin cells (fibroblasts) lost little or no activity under the influence of the poly-saccharides in Spiralin® following exposure to strong UV radiation, whereas the skin cells irradiated with the same UV dosage – but without the protection of Spiralin® – lost almost 50% of their activity.
…regenerates damaged skin cells
Experimental studies revealed that collagen-forming skin cells that had lost almost 50% of their cell activity as the result of UV irradiation, were able to regain approx. 50% of the lost activity under the influence of the polysaccharides contained in Spiralin®.
…protects against premature skin ageing
Sun, stress, poor nutrition and many other negative influences can cause the skin to age prematurely. The collagen-forming cells (fibroblasts) are an important factor in the ageing of the skin. The quantity and quality of collagen determine the firmness of the skin. Studies have shown that the poly-saccharides contained in Spiralin® increase the formation of collagen in human skin cells by up to 36% (depending on the concentration).
Antimicrobial profile of Spiralin®
The special sugar molecules (poly-saccharides) found in the natural microalgae extract Spiralin®, have proven to protect human skin cells against entry of viruses and against a range of infections (i.e. keratinocytes):
- HSV Herpes simplex virus (incl. H simplex keratitis and H encephalitis)
- HPV Human Papilloma virus
- KSHV/HHV-8 (Kaposi sarcoma associated H-virus, Human H-virus) causing cutaneous Kaposi sarcoma
- Yeasts (inhibition > 80%)
- Candida glabrata
- Candida albicans
- Dermatophytes (inhibition > 80%)
- TrichoPhyton rubrum
- TrichoPhyton mentagrophytes
- MicroSporum canis
(inhibition > 80%)
- StaphyloCoccus aureus
- MRSA (Methicillin / Multi-resistant staph au.)
- PropioniBacterium acnes

Will these pathogens eventually become resistant to Spiralin®?
Based on results of experimental analyses, the natural mixture of the active ingredients of the Spiralin® extract conveys broad antimicrobial protection, which even includes the increasingly problematic drug-resistant MRSA strains. Since these antimicrobial properties were conserved during evolution, the emergence of resistances is very unlikely in the long term.
