Discover why KOSHO's unique Matcha extract derived from organic, Japanese matcha green tea can do everything vitamin C can do – and better!
Q: What Is Vitamin C & Why Is It Good For The Skin?
Vitamin C in skincare is derived from various ingredients and usually comes as a vitamin C serum.
Common vitamin C ingredients in skincare include:
- L-ascorbic acid – comes from natural sources such as oranges.
In topical skincare products it usually carries a concentration between 5 – 15%. Any more can cause irritation, as this is the most active form of vitamin C - Ascorbyl palmitate – is a synthetic derivative from Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) and Palm Oil. Ascorbyl Palmitate doesn't have the same oxidation process as L-Ascorbic Acid, making it a gentler version of Vitamin C in skincare
- Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate – derived from ascorbic acid and a magnesium salt which are mixed with a phosphorylating ingredient. But can also be made from animal-based products, therefore not always vegan
Positive effects vitamin C is renowned for having on the skin:
- brightening
- inhibiting melanin production (less hyperpigmentation)
- promoting collagen production
- reducing the appearance of under-eye circles
- reducing redness (anti-inflammatory)
- reducing the appearance of under-eye circles
- hydrating
- safe for most skin types (see below)
People suffering from extremely sensitive skin or skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea etc. should avoid vitamin C as it may cause irritation.
Why KOSHO's Matcha Extract Is (100x) Better...
An Antioxidant 100x More Potent Than Vitamin C
Most people would prefer natural sources of vitamin C, like oranges (e.g. L-ascorbic acid) for their skincare. The issue with plant-derived sources of vitamin C is that they tend to be "unstable" and pretty low in concentration. For example, the strength of L-ascorbic acid in kakadu plum is about 2% which cannot affect the skin in any significant way.
This is why most manufacturers use a synthetic form of L-ascorbic acid or other kind of vitamin C in their formulations.
Matcha green tea has the highest amount of antioxidants compared to any other plants. KOSHO's organic Matcha extract is characterised by its high content of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).
This polyphenol is considered an antioxidant 100 times more potent than vitamin C.
This means KOSHO's unique organic Matcha extract has far greater skin-rejuvenating potential than vitamin C.
Catechins & Flavonoids Protect Against Ageing
Due to further catechins and tea flavonoids in KOSHO's unique organic Matcha extract, Kosho Matcha Effective Cosmetics provide natural protection against cell transformation (ageing) caused by free radicals, against UV radiation and other harmful environmental influences.
Vital Amino Acids Boost Collagen & Elastin
A month prior to (hand) harvest, Matcha green tea plantations are shaded. This slows down the ripening of the tea: with only 10% of sunlight available to the tea plants, a particularly high amount of chlorophyll is produced. In addition to chlorophyll this results in many valuable amino acids. These include L-theanine which activates the production of important proteins such as collagen and elastin for smoother, firmer skin.
Natural & Derived From The Finest Tea Leaves
Matcha consists of only the fine tissue of the best leaves. Stems and veins are carefully removed. After selecting, steaming and drying, only the best material reaches the special granite mills where the tissue of the leaves is gently ground to finest powder. This grinding process results in only 30 to 40 grams per hour.
KOSHO Matcha Effective Extract is derived from the tea using a patented manufacturing process in Switzerland. The Matcha extract remains organic and gives the KOSHO Matcha Effective Cosmetics their powerful, plant-derived skin-protecting and -rejuvenating results.
